Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 11, 2026
This document describes how the Followers app handles your information. The short version: the app has no server of its own, and it does not collect anything about you. Everything the app does happens on your device, against your own Instagram account, or in your own private iCloud.
Followers is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Instagram or Meta Platforms, Inc.
1. What the app does
Followers connects to your Instagram account and shows you which accounts you follow don't follow you back, along with changes over time (who stopped following you).
2. How sign-in works — and how it doesn't
- Sign-in happens directly on Instagram's own real login page, inside an embedded browser view (WKWebView) that the app displays.
- The app has no password field of its own. Your password is typed directly into Instagram's site and never passes through the app's code at any point.
- After signing in, the app stores only the session cookies Instagram
issues (
sessionid,csrftoken,ds_user_id) — never your username or password.
3. What is collected, and where it's stored
| Data | Where it lives |
|---|---|
| Your Instagram session cookies | iOS Keychain only, with the strongest protection level available (WhenUnlockedThisDeviceOnly) — never in UserDefaults, a file, or a log |
| Your followers/following lists and their public usernames/profile pictures | A local, on-device database (SwiftData) |
| Sync history (for the followers graph and "stopped following" alerts) | The same local database |
All of this data travels directly from Instagram to your device, in requests sent from your device using your own session — exactly as if you browsed those lists yourself. No request passes through a server the developer operates, because no such server exists.
4. Syncing to your own private iCloud
So your data survives deleting and reinstalling the app, and is available on other devices signed into the same Apple ID, the app uses CloudKit — your own private iCloud database, tied to your Apple ID, not to any service the developer operates.
- This is your own private iCloud only. The developer cannot access, view, or restore it.
- If you follow more than one Instagram account from devices sharing the same Apple ID, each account's history is tagged separately and never shown under the other account.
- If you don't want this data synced to iCloud, you can turn off iCloud sync for the app in your device's Settings (Settings → [Apple ID] → iCloud), or disable iCloud for the device entirely.
5. What is never collected
- Your Instagram password — never seen or stored by the app, at any point.
- No analytics, no advertising tracking, and no third-party SDKs. There are no ads in the app.
- No data is ever sold, shared, or transferred to any third party.
- Location, contacts, photos from your device, or any permission not required for the app to function.
6. Local notifications
After a sync completes, the app may show a local notification (created and delivered entirely by your own device — not through a push server) summarizing new or lost followers. There is no remote push infrastructure, so no outside party is involved in this notification.
7. Unfollowing
The default is manual assist: the app opens the account's profile in the Instagram app, and you complete the unfollow there yourself. Unfollowing directly from within Followers is an optional feature (off by default), and is deliberately rate-limited to mimic ordinary human usage rather than put your Instagram account at risk.
8. Deleting your data
At any time, the app's Settings screen offers a full sign out, which immediately deletes: - your session cookies from the Keychain, - all local data (lists, history, action log), - the WebView's cookie data.
Deleting the app from your device, combined with turning off its iCloud sync (section 4), also removes the copy in your own private iCloud.
9. Children
The app is not directed at children and does not knowingly target them. Using it requires an existing Instagram account, so it is already subject to Instagram's own minimum age requirement.
10. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, we will update the date at the top of this document and every localized copy of it (Hebrew, English, Arabic).
